St. John's, NL – The Memorial University Sea-Hawks are excited to welcome Katelynn Preston to the women's volleyball program for the upcoming season. Hailing from Rorketon, Manitoba, Preston joins the team as a setter while pursuing a Psychology degree at Memorial.
A strong leader on the court, Preston served as co-captain of the Ste Rose Celtics, leading her team to three tournament victories and a 4th place finish at the MHSAA A Provincials. She has developed her skills through competitive club volleyball, playing for Club West (Virden, MB) and previously with the Parkland Vipers.
For Preston, the decision to join the Sea-Hawks was a natural fit, aligning with both her athletic and personal aspirations.
"I chose Memorial because I believe that my goals as an athlete match their goals as a program, and I am looking forward to playing at the U SPORTS level. The chance to play for Coach Sydney, who is also from Manitoba, was an opportunity I couldn't pass up."
Preston prides herself on staying composed in high-pressure situations, a trait that will be invaluable as she takes on the role of setter for the Sea-Hawks.
"My approach to the game involves staying calm in any pressure situation. I believe that if your energy and composure stay steady, you are going to succeed when it matters most."
Beyond volleyball, she is eager to embrace the team-first culture at Memorial and experience life on the East Coast.
"I am most looking forward to being a part of a program that treats each other like family and pushes each other to be better. Along with being able to see new things living on the East Coast."
As she begins this next chapter, Preston is ready to bring positive energy, leadership, and a steady presence to the team both on and off the court.
Head coach Sydney Rohm is thrilled to have Preston join the roster.
"Katelynn is a composed and intelligent setter who will bring leadership and poise to our team. Her ability to stay calm under pressure and create opportunities for her teammates makes her a great addition to our program."
The Sea-Hawks are looking forward to seeing Preston in action as she takes the next step in her volleyball career.
