St. John's, NL – The Memorial University Sea-Hawks women's volleyball program is thrilled to announce the addition of standout middle blocker Georgia Cartwright for the upcoming season. Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, Cartwright brings an impressive volleyball resume and a strong passion for the game as she prepares to embark on her university career at MUN.
Cartwright, who will be pursuing a degree in Kinesiology, joins the Sea-Hawks from Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute, where she was part of the esteemed Birchmount Exceptional Athlete Program from 2021 to 2025. She has also competed at the club level with the Titans Volleyball Association and Leaside Volleyball Club.
A proven competitor on the national stage, Cartwright has been a member of multiple Team Ontario squads, including Team Ontario Red (2022, 2023 – Canada Cup Champions), Team Ontario Black (2024), and Team Ontario Beach (2024). She was also recognized with the OVA Award of Excellence in 2022.
When asked about her decision to join the Sea-Hawks, Cartwright cited the welcoming environment and strong team culture as key factors in choosing Memorial University.
"Some of the reasons I chose Memorial were because of the team, the coaching staff, and how beautiful St. John's is. I also chose Memorial because I'm always eager to try new things, and moving to a different province means a new experience for me, which I am so excited about. My dream was to play in university, and it has come true!"
Known for her passionate, energetic, and aggressive playing style, Cartwright emphasizes a positive and winning mindset, prioritizing trust and accountability among her teammates. As she transitions to university competition, she looks forward to the challenge of competing at a high level and forming strong bonds with her new teammates.
"I am looking forward to competing at a high level, living in a new place, and creating strong bonds with my new teammates while making memories that will last forever. I hope that my hard work, high energy, and love for volleyball will help contribute to the team's success."
Cartwright will bring effective blocking skills, strong offensive decision-making, and excellent communication to the Sea-Hawks roster. Her dedication to team success and high-energy approach on the court will undoubtedly strengthen the squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.
