Sea-Hawks Hold Strong Times at First Meet

Sea-Hawks Hold Strong Times at First Meet

The Memorial Sea-Hawks Swim Team came away with some impressive standings from the Jack Scholz Invitational Meet at Acadia. 5th year Heidi Perry came first in both the 100 and 200 fly with times of 1:06.06 and 2:28.31 respectively. She also helped her team to a 3rd place finish in the 4x50 medley and the 4x100 free. "Having some good personal placings in our first meet definitely helps boost confidence but any of the athletes are very capable of making large improvements in short periods! I'm excited to race again and hoping I've put in enough work to be able to beat my current best times" says Perry, who has been crucial to the Sea-Hawks' high placings for years.

On the men's side, first year Chris Weeks dominated the meet, walking away with 4 first place finishes. Weeks placed first in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, and 100 fly with times of 23.64, 50.15, 24.53, and 56.81 respectively. As a first year, Weeks shows potential to be a crucial member of the Sea-Hawks team for years to come. "I really enjoyed my first meet as a Sea-Hawk. I feel we had a strong performance" says Weeks looking back. "Being able to secure some top placings at my first AUS meet feels unreal, but I'm mostly excited about the strong relays we've been able to form with a team full of talented athletes". Daniel Pearce, Stephen Milley, Chris Weeks, and Thomas Chafe worked together to finish the 4x400 free with a time of 3:33.02, a time strong enough to hold first place.

Both the men's and the women's Sea-Hawks teams walked away with overall 3rd place finishes. The teams hoisted some strong times and are only looking to improve them for the next meet.

Both Perry and Weeks emphasized how well the team is coming together. "We have a close knit group that provides a new energy and atmosphere to the sport" says Weeks. Veteran Perry had some great things to say on the progress of the team so far. "Our team had a great performance, it's amazing to see the program continuing to improve".

The teams will hit the water once again at the Kemp Fry Invitational meet hosted by Dalhousie. The team is looking to continue giving their all and finishing high. "We are excited for the chance to race this weekend and put all our hard training hours into performing at our best" says Melissa Brown who also boasted some impressive placings last meet.
