Memorial set to host the 2023 AUS Swimming Championships

The Memorial Sea-Hawks will be looking to make an impact this weekend as they compete in the AUS Swimming Championships on home soil. This will be the first time since 2013 that Memorial will have hosted the conference championships, and it will be sure to be an exciting and eventful weekend.

This will be one of the biggest rosters to date that Memorial will be bringing to the competition, with 18 women and 16 swimmers on the men's side. There is also plenty of talent on the team, and combining this with the large number of swimmers will certainly help the Sea-Hawks accumulate points for the team.

Some notable achievements for the Sea-Hawks so far this season include a solid showing at the Kemp Fry Invitational meet. Thomas Chafe and Matthew Whelan placed in individual events while Logan Palmer, Dylan Morawski and Mostafa Zein all placed in relay events for the men's side. Matthew Whelan also got first place in the 400m Individual Medley, setting a provincial record and reaching the qualifying U Sport standard. On the women's side, Heidi Perry, Ali Warren and Kate Williams all earned medals in individual events, while Marcy Whelan and Kathryn Stokes also helped the team swim to a podium spot in the 4x100m Individual Medley. Overall, young talent combined with experienced veterans on both the men and women's sides give the Sea-Hawks a well-rounded team that will be a contender in many events.

The other universities competing this weekend are Dalhousie, Acadia, UNB and Mount Allison. DAL are the defending champs in both the men and women's team event.

The preliminaries begin at 10am each day, while the finals begin at 6pm. Awards will be presented periodically throughout the final swims, and all the major awards will be presented on the final day of the meet.

The event will be hosted at the The Works Aquarena, and the races will be livestreamed on AUS TV (Home | AUS.TV (yaretv.com)). We hope to see you there!
