Sea-Hawks Women’s Soccer Welcomes Forward Emma Whalen
St. John's, NL – January 28, 2025 – Sea-Hawks women's soccer are keenly announcing the commitment of forward Emma Whalen for the 2025 season and beyond. A member of the St. John's Soccer Club and a standout within the NLSA provincial programs, Emma has enjoyed a successful and notable journey through the province's youth soccer ranks. Upon graduating from Holy Spirit High School, she will undergo a Bachelor of Physical Education degree at Memorial University.

"I chose Memorial because of its amazing soccer and academic reputation, as well I get to play at home for my university with a great group of girls" revealed Whalen. "I am most looking forward to the challenge of playing at a higher level. I hope to build friendships with my new teammates, and to keep developing as a player."

Sea-Hawks head coach Mike Power indicated that the CBS native is a "technical player who can create and score goals. She also has good vision for the game, and can be effective as a stand-alone striker, or as a player maker underneath. But most importantly I see Emma as a highly motivated young player who wants to be successful. For these reasons she has a lot of potential for the future, and I expect her to excel in our environment over time. "

Whalen becomes the first member of the team's 2025 recruiting class. The Sea-Hawks enjoyed a successful 2024 AUS campaign where they finished the regular season in 4th place before advancing to the AUS semi-final for the 10th consecutive season. With a high number of senior student-athletes returning for 2025, the team is aiming for continuous improvement this year. In preparation for the season, the team is currently training for an exhibition tour in Florida next month where they will face NCAA competition.
