Sea-Hawks leave the AUS Playoffs with a Hard Fought Run

The Memorial Sea-Hawks finished their season with an intense battle in the semi-final 

 

The Sea-Hawks (5th) played the Dalhousie Tigers (4th) in the quarter finals. The game ended in a 1-1 tie in regulation time with a goal from Claire Langille who used her speed to beat the opposing team's defender and knock one short side. The teams then headed into penalty kicks where each team had 7 shooters. Scorers for Memorial were Zoe Rowe, Claire Langille, Trinity Coito, Alyssa Jenkins, and finally Abby Evans who gained the winning penalty. Goalkeeper Shannon Galway put off an impressive penalty kick showing between the pipes to help her team to victory. 

The Sea-Hawks then were faced with the first place team in the semi-finals, the St. FX X-Women. The X-Women were leading 1-0 at half. Early in the second half, defender Sarah Jones made a stunning pass to Claire Langille who carried the ball into the box and hit the ball off of a St.FX defender to tie the game. The Sea-Hawks were unable to find the back of the net past this point and the game ended in a hard fought 3-1 loss in the quarter finals.

The Memorial Sea-Hawks ended the season with a well rounded team posting some impressive statistics. Lead goal scorer Zoe Rowe left the final game with 9 regulation goals as well as a goal in the semi-finals tie breaking penalty kicks. Out of these goals, 2 were game winners. Rowe also earned a spot on the first team all stars as well as the AUS Student-Athlete Community Service Award. Key player Claire Langille led the team with 5 assists fuelled by her impressive speed and tight footwork. She also had 2 regular season goals and gained both of the regulation goals during the Sea-Hawks playoff run as well. Langille earned her spot on the second team all stars. Second for regular season goals was co-captain Kate Hickey who blasted 3 past opposing teams goalkeepers. Strong defensive showings each game earned Sarah Jones a spot on the Second team all stars. Rookie defender twins Kendra and Sydney Schram also played as promising up and coming talent. Between the pipes for the majority of the games was goalkeeper Shannon Galway. Galway placed 5th in the AUS with an impressive save percentage of 0.750%.
