Sea-Hawks Head to Cape Breton For Playoff Performance

The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's team (5-6-1) is headed to Cape Breton for the 2023 AUS playoffs. Their first game will take place on Thursday Oct. 26. at 11 am where they will face the fourth place team, the Dalhousie Tigers (5-4-3). The winner of this quarter final game will head to the semifinals against the undefeated St. FX X-Women on Friday Oct. 27.

The Sea-Hawks already clinched a playoff spot heading into last weekend's matches against Acadia. The Sea-Hawks fell just short, losing to Acadia 2-1 in both games. In the first game, Memorial took an early lead from a penalty kick taken by co-captain Kate Hickey who found the bottom left corner of the net past Acadia's goalkeeper Melanie Ramirez. The Acadia Axe-Women were able to net two against the Memorial Sea-Hawks to take a hard fought 2-1 win. The final regular season game ended in the same result, a 2-1 win for Acadia. The Axe-Women were up 2-0 with only 10 minutes left when Sea-Hawks Claire Langille danced around an Acadia defender deep in their zone. She then found the ball to Trinity Coito who gained her first goal as a Sea-Hawk. Acadia left the final game of the regular season with another 2-1 win.

The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's team is heading into the playoffs sitting at 5th place. With a difficult back half of the season, they have been preparing well for the playoffs. Their first contestant is the Dalhousie Tigers who sit at 4th place. When the two teams met each other for the season openers, each team walked away with a win. Memorial won the first game 1-0 whereas Dalhousie won the second game 1-0.

Heading into the playoffs, the Sea-Hawks have accumulated 18 goals. Memorial's point leader is Zoe Rowe, with 9 goals and 2 assists. Another key offensive player is Claire Langille with 2 goals and 5 assists. Both players will be essential to the Sea-Hawks offense during their playoff run. Langille is anticipating the team to have a hard fought playoff run. Heading into the quarter final game she says "I am looking forward to pushing to the next level and giving it our all".
