Last Regular Season Games for the Sea-Hawks

The Memorial Sea-Hawks Look to Climb to Highest Possible Ranking Heading into the Playoffs

The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's soccer team (5-4-1) will host the Acadia Axe-Women (6-2-2) for their last set of regular season games at King George V field this weekend. Memorial has clinched a playoff spot and will be fighting to reach the highest standing they can leading into the playoffs.

This past weekend, the Sea-Hawks faced the two top teams in the AUS, The Cape Breton Capers (9-1-0) and the St. FX X-Women (10-0-0), resulting in two close losses. The Sea-Hawks left their first game with a hard fought 1-0 loss against the Capers. A strong Sea-Hawks showing that included impressive performances from striker Claire Langille with 4 shots and goalie Shannon Glaway with 7 saves gave the Capers a rigorous competition. The final game of the weekend against the St. FX  X-Women ended in a 3-0 loss for the Sea-Hawks. The X-Women were able to gain 3 quick goals, in the span of just 12 minutes. Although the X-Women continued to control the play, the Sea-Hawks were then able to strengthen their defense and allow no further goals. Rookie defender Kendra Schramm earned player of the game honors for her outstanding defensive performance. Despite the two losses, head coach Mike Power finds the positives.  "The final stretch of our season has offered us the opportunity to test ourselves against the very top teams in the conference and that is the best way to get ready for the playoffs."

This weekend, the Sea-Hawks will play their last home games of the season against the Acadia Axe-Women who are only 4 points ahead of the Sea-Hawks. The Axe-Women are led by 5th year Sydney Kennedy who sits at third in the AUS for both shots and goals with 45 and 12 respectively. Between the pipes for the Axe-Women is Milena Ramirez who currently has 3 shutouts under her belt and a save percentage of 0.780%. Sea-Hawks coach and team are looking forward to these games to prepare for the upcoming playoffs. Head coach Mike Power says "We'll use these matches vs Acadia to continue to focus on improving and fine tuning our performances to make sure we are at our peak for our quarterfinal match on Oct 26th."

Memorial is currently led by 4th year Zoe Rowe who sits at an impressive 9 goals and 30 shots in just 8 games. The Sea-Hawks have also had a strong showing between the pipes from Shannon Galway. With only 11 goals against and saving 38 shots, she has a save percentage of 0.776%. Galway has been a crucial part of Memorials defencive showing this season.
