The Memorial Sea-Hawks (10-2-0) head into the playoffs on the right note after their 5-0 win versus the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (0-12-0), extending their winning streak to 7 games before they head into playoff action.
Heading into the regular season finale, the Sea-Hawks had already locked in their first-round bye, they were able to walk away with another victory at Prince George V Park, in St. Johns. Sea-Hawks leading goal-scorer Holly O'Neil would get the scoring started int eh 9th minute off a pass by defender Nicole Torraville. Not long later, O'Neil would find the back of the net once again by way of a penalty kick in the 11th minute. The home team kept the pressure on the Aigles Bleus, as the Sea-Hawks would complete a pretty passing play, as midfielder Katie Joyce found her teammate Celina-Marie Welling all alone in front for her 3rd goal of the season. Later in the opening half, Sea-Hawks captain Lauren Taylor found forward Zoe Rowe all alone in front in the 28th minute, Rowe's 4th tally of the season. Despite the big lead early, the Sea-Hawks weren't going to sit back, start forward Holly O'Neil would find the back of the net once again when the crafty forward danced through a few defenders before burying her 12th goal of the season in the 30th minute, and completing the hat trick. The Sea-Hawks forward looks to have put a stranglehold on the AUS scoring title.
For the second-half both the Sea-Hawks and Aigles Bleus played a conservative style with both teams not having many chances to score. The best chance on net of the second frame was a glorious chance by Sea-Hawks forward Zoe Rowe just missed the far post on a strike from the edge of the box. Both goalkeepers performed well for their respective clubs, Sea-Hawks keeper Sydney Walsh saved both of the shots she faced, and Aigles Bleus goalkeeper Chelsea Burnmham made a match high 9 saves in a tremendous effort.
The player of the game was awarded to Sea-Hawks forward Holly O'Neil, her hat trick helped carry the home side to a commanding victory.
With the win today the Sea-Hawks have clinched first place in the AUS and are headed to Cape Breton this week for 2021 Subway AUS Women's Soccer Championship, where they will have a first round bye.
