SEA-HAWKS SET TO FACE CBU AND ST.FX

The Matchup
This travel weekend the Sea-Hawks head to Nova Scotia where they will first take on the Cape Breton Capers and the St.FX X-Women.

In the last Sea-Hawks soccer weekend, the ladies took on the league leaders, the Acadia Axewomen. The weekend ended with one loss and one tie for the Sea-Hawks. In day two of their meet-up, the Sea-Hawks came out stronger and better able to penetrate Acadia's defense to allow for more scoring opportunities, but just couldn't get anything passed the keeper. Memorial did show some promising defense in day two, not allowing for any opponent goals. The AUS Subway player of the game would be awarded to Memorial's Chantel Armstrong for her aggressive defense throughout the match, playing an integral role in Acadia's day-two scoreless finish.

The Capers currently sit at second place in the league (7-1), securing themselves a spot in the playoffs. The only loss the team has faced this season was to the Acadia Axewomen. Be it that the Sea-Hawks were able to hold Acadia to a tie last time they met, gives reason for optimism coming into this CBU matchup. Sea-Hawks defense will need to stay strong as Cape Breton's offense will no doubt give them a run for their money. Capers big four: Alliyah Rowe (9G, 1A), Ciera Disipio (3G, 7A), Rachel Leck (4G, 3A) and Amelia Carlini (4G, 2A) are sure to bring a big offensive game and Sea-Hawks defenders will need to be on high alert.

The X-Women also already hold their spot in the playoffs, currently sitting third in the league. The Sea-Hawks don't trail far behind as they sit in fifth with a record of 4-2-2. Although St.FX has six wins in nine games, they have yet to see a loss, finishing all non-wins in ties.

With a strong offensive line lead by Nicole Torraville (5G, 3A) and Holly O'Neill (4G, 1A), the Sea-Hawks have a chance to hand the X-Women their first taste of defeat. If Memorial has taken learning points from their last game, than it will be to adopt a more dynamic passing routine and keep the ball moving, as shown to be effective by Acadia's quick footwork. If the Sea-Hawks can gain enough possessions, and never let their defense break, than they have a real chance at solidifying a win this weekend.
