Sea-Hawks Soar Past Huskies 6-0

Memorial starts the season with a 6-0 shutout against the Saint Mary's Huskies. A great showing by both teams this afternoon but it was the Sea-Hawks offensive edge and tight defence that decided the game.

St. John's native Lauren Taylor was the first player to put the Sea-Hawks on the score board, shortly followed by a second goal in the 8th minute by 4th year player #10 Holly O'Niell. The goals continued as 2nd year player #7 Kate Hickey put up another for the Hawks.

After the half Taylor scored her second and the teams fourth in the 46th minute on a rebound after Nicole Torraville made an attempt at the net. The Sea-Hawks continued to show offensive force as Lauren Taylor scored the fifth goal on an assist from #11 Stacey Hanlon who had many of her own great attempts throughout the game taking 9 of the teams 15 shots on goal. To complete the score for the game Nicole Torraville snuck one in from the corner in the 75th minute.

Saint Mary's keeper Kyanna Gilks played a full 90 minutes and made nine recorded saves. The young energetic Saint Mary's team left it all on the field with some strong aggressive play, unfortunately they weren't able to get enough shots off to make something happen. The AUS Subway player of the game was awarded to MUN's Lauren Taylor for her impressive offensive play.

The Sea-Hawks and Huskies return to the pitch tomorrow at 1:00pm to conclude the weekend series.
