ACAA All Star Forward Commits to Seahawks Women's Basketball

Coach English and the Women's Basketball program are excited to announce the commitment of Amelia Mitchell for the 2025-2026 season. Amelia Mitchell, a 6'0 forward from Rothesay, New Brunswick played the last four seasons at Mount Allison University in the ACAA. Last season, she averaged 13.2ppg, 8.4rpg and 2.1 apg and was named a first team all-star ACAA conference while her team posted a record of 14-4 and finished 3rd in the ACAA.

Her decision to join the women's basketball is exciting as Coach English continues to build the roster for next season.

"Amelia will be a fantastic addition to our team next season."  said Coach English. "Amelia has improved every year in the ACAA and she had a very impressive season last year at Mount Allison. We feel she can bring rebounding and extra scoring in the paint which is something that we need. We look forward to seeing her bring her game to the AUS level."

Memorial offers Amelia an opportunity to finish her eligibly while continuing her education. "I am beyond excited to be continuing my basketball and educational journey at Memorial University. Having the opportunity to study and research in the field of Clinical Epidemiology while playing basketball at another level has been a dream of mine. I am extremely thankful to have the chance to play one more year and finish out my eligibility. I cannot wait to see what the 2025-2026 season has in store!"

Amelia is also known for her excellent leadership, is a great academic, and has a incredible feel for the game. She brings a skill set that Coach English believes pairs well with the AUS and her experience will be a major asset. "We are always trying to add athletes who strive for excellence in all areas. This is something that Amelia certainly does. We feel she will be a great fit with our culture and she will help us as we continue to grow and build our team for next season."
