Huskies lose 84-81 versus Memorial 

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – Memorial's Hallie Nickerson (Grimsby, ON) leads the country in scoring and on Sunday afternoon she showed why. 

The Sea-Hawks needed everyone of her game-high 26 points to fight off SMU's fourth quarter rally.  

Leading 70-55 at the start of the fourth, Memorial extended their lead to 20 with 8:24 left in the game. Over the next 8:01, Saint Mary's caught fire with a 26-5 run, aided by their 3-point shooting—5 for 10—during that stretch. 

Leading 81-80 with 45 seconds left, SMU was called for a foul in the key. Two free throws sent the Sea-Hawks ahead, 82-80 and SMU's last two three-point attempts fell short, as Nickerson closed out the game with her 25th and 26th points of the night from the foul-line for an 84-81 victory. 

Saint Mary's outscored Memorial 17-15 in the opening quarter and both teams combined for 49 points in the second quarter, with the Sea-Hawks controlling the scoring edge, 28-21 in their favour. 

Half time saw Memorial lead by five, 43-38. 

For her efforts, Nickerson was named the SUBWAY Player of the Game as she topped her 24.6 points per game average.  

Alana Short (Barrie, ON) added 20 pints and seven rebounds for the Sea-Hawks, Sammi Deakin-Sharpe (Brisbane, Australia) chipped in seven and Nickerson had a team-high eight rebounds as Memorial improves to 12-4.  

Saint Mary's falls to 7-8 in Atlantic University Sport action and a trio of Huskies led the way with 18 points apiece-- Rookie Lucina Beaumont (Fredericton, NB), sophomore Alaina McMillan (Brantford, ON) and Arianna Macias (Tampa, Florida). Beaumont and McMillian each recorded a double-double as well.
