Hawks Visit St. Mary's for Weekend Series

Sea-Hawks face Huskies in two 4-point games

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (10-4) travel to Saint Mary's University where they will take on the Huskies (7-6) in two 4-point games. Memorial come into the games after splitting their home games against Cape Breton, while the Huskies won their last two matchups, both against the Dalhousie Tigers at home and on the road.

The Hawks will need Haille Nickerson to lead the way as she has all season, as she continues her tear across the AUS. The 5th year guard is averaging 25.3 points per game and is leading the AUS in that category. Another notable player for the Hawks is 2nd year forward Gabrielle Roche, who came off the bench in Sunday's game and was able to grab 9 rebounds in just 13 minutes of play. Look to see if Coach English rewards her with some more playing time this weekend.

Coach English had this to say about the upcoming road trip: "I feel this weekend will be a tough match up against a very good SMU team. They shoot the ball extremely well and we will need to bring extra focus on defending the 3pt line and having solid rotations on defense. We played SMU very early this year in the preseason and they were two very close games. I expect it to be a battle all weekend"

The Huskies will hope for similar performances from Alaina McMillian and Kendra MacKinnon this weekend, as they both averaged 20 points last weekend against Dalhousie. MacKinnon was especially hot from deep as she sank a total of 12 threes through both games, so Saint Mary's will hope that the hot streak carries over into this weekend against Memorial.

The Hawks will have to slow down the three-point shooting of the Huskies, who are 2nd in the AUS in three-point percentage. If they can keep them off the three point line and force them inside, the Hawks may have a better chance at beating the Huskies in these very crucial 4-point games this weekend.

The Sea-Hawks and Huskies play at 6:30PM on Saturday and 1:30PM on Sunday. You can watch the games online at www.austv.ca, follow the live scores of the games on www.goseahawks.ca or follow the games on Twitter.
