Hawks Win Big Over Dalhousie

Hawks Win Big Over Dalhousie

The Memorial Sea-Hawks opened the new year right with a win over the Dalhousie Tigers, 78-45.

The Hawks owned the first half, bolstered by incredible performances from Hallie Nickerson (#23) and Alana Short (#7). Nickerson had 14 points; Short had 13 points off 3/4 shooting from deep.

The Tigers struggled to put up points in the first quarter, posting just 5, but they had a better second quarter, finishing the half with 22. Their major flaw was the immense number of turnovers – Dalhousie had 15 turnovers and 22 points in the first twenty minutes of play.

Memorial lead at the half, 38-22.

The second half was even worse for the Tigers, as Memorial pulled out ahead in a big way. Their full-court pressure continued to force Dalhousie into bad positions and cause turnovers in which the Hawks capitalized frequently.

Memorial received solid contributions from Hallie Nickerson (#23, who scored a game-high 34 points. Alana Short (#7) posted a solid 17 points, finishing 3/5 from deep and 6/12 on the night. Jane Baird (#4) had a triple double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists – she also earned player of the game commendations.

The Hawks will look to sweep the weekend series against the Tigers, as each game is worth four points in the AUS standings. All Sea-Hawks home games are available on austv.ca
