THE MATCHUP
The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's basketball team travels to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay Ontario this weekend to tighten up all ends before the start of the regular season. Coach English is looking forward to this weekend, not only for the great basketball he expects to witness but because he will be returning to old stomping grounds. English was once the assistant coach of Lakehead's men's basketball team. The Sea-Hawks will play three games over the weekend, meeting Lakehead, Algoma and Winnipeg.

The Sea-Hawks head into this preseason weekend with good preparation as they have already played five exhibition games. Memorials preseason record currently stands at 2-3. As they prepare to head into their season home opener in two weeks' time, a couple of wins this weekend will surely give them the confidence boost they'll want.

In the last few preseason games, seniors Haille Nickerson and Jane Baird have shown great leadership to the young crew. A few other that have played a big role on the scoresheet this preseason are second year guard Alana Short and first year forward Hannah Green. These next few games will just be further opportunity for the team to better unite their individual skills and form that strong team dynamic that will be sure help them on the court in this upcoming season.

As coach English expected, the team is looking well unified so far this preseason and their hard off-season work is beginning to pay off. The more games these ladies play together the more you will begin to see players come forward and begin breaking out of their rookie shells. English is confident in the ability of all his athletes, it's just a matter of them finding their confidence on the floor that will really set things off.
