The UPEI Panthers (11-1) scraped by the Memorial Sea-Hawks (4-8) in Saturday's game, 77-75.

The first quarter was a tough start for the Hawks. They struggled to convert on multiple easy attempts. UPEI had far more success early, with a deep three to start their scoring, leading to a 10-0 start, forcing a Memorial time out.

The second quarter was a far more successful frame of action; Memorial outscored UPEI 20-15 as a team. They were able to start a 6-0 run out of a time out.  Jane Baird was a major boost for the Hawks, with a solid 10 points in the first half. Brooklyn Wright backed her up with a solid 8, shooting 2/5 from deep as well. For UPEI, Reese Baxendale led the scoring with a healthy 12 points, despite struggling from the line, shooting 3/6 from the free-throw line.

The third quarter was a tight competition between the Panthers and Hawks. Both teams fought for their points, neither team shooting well from the field. Sydney Stewart had 8 in the quarter for the Hawks. In the final frame, Memorial tried to earn the lead. The Panthers were able to hang on. It was a tense final few moments for both teams, as Memorial had a great press in the final few moments. Despite their efforts, the Panthers converted on their clutch free throws, and Memorial missed on their last-second opportunity.

In the Panthers win, four of the five starters had double-digit points, two players posting 18 (Jenna Mae Ellsworth & Reese Baxendale). Ellsworth earned player-of-the-game commendations.

The scoring for Memorial was fairly balanced as well, three starters scoring in the double-digits. Sydney Stewart led the Hawks with 14. Memorial will look to split the series against UPEI tomorrow; the game will be available for live stream on AUStv.ca
