Hawks Drop Third Straight

Sydney, NS – The Capers completed a weekend sweep of the Memorial Sea-Hawks with a 91-90 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Sullivan Fieldhouse. The Capers were able to hold off a late surge by the Sea-Hawks as MEMORIAL outscored the Capers 26-22 in the final quarter. CBU used a strong start to gain an early 9 point lead but MEMORIAL came roaring back in the second quarter to take a 6 point lead into the half. The Capers were able to make their foul shots down the stretch to preserve the victory and remain unbeaten on the season. The Capers received strong games from Hannah Brown (North Sydney, NS) with 29 points and 17 rebounds as well as Toni Bianchini (Groves Point, NS) who had 20 points and Monique Calliste (Toronto, ON) with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Sea-Hawks were led by impact player Sydney Stewart who had 36 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.  Haillie Nickerson and Brooklyn Wright also scored in double digits for the Newfoundland school.   

Turning point – The Sea-Hawks had a chance to take the lead late in the game on a fast break but an errant pass gave the Capers possession and Hannah Brown was fouled. She calmly stepped up and put the Capers ahead for good.

  • The Sea-Hawks Stewart led all players with 36 pts
  • Brown led the game with 17 rebounds
  • Stewart and CBU's Mackenzee Ryan (Glace Bay, NS) each had a game-high 4 assists
  • CBU's Bianchini had 4 three-pointers

The Capers move to 7-0 on the season and remain the only unbeaten team in the AUS.
