Sea-Hawks Head to Montreal

The Sea-Hawks women's basketball team will be flying to Montreal this weekend, to play in the Concordia Classic Basketball Tournament. The Sea-Hawks will play 3 games, with matchups against Concordia, Laurentian, and UPEI.

The Sea-Hawks welcome back the majority of last year's squad, with a few key additions.  Memorial welcomes back Sydney Ezekiel, who spent last season doing an academic program in BC. There are 4 rookies vying for playing time this season as well. Head Coach Mark English is looking forward to seeing how his team will gel, mixing in some great young talent.

"We have been improving every day in practice and our 1st years are picking things up quickly. The preseason is a great time to put players in different situations to see who plays well together and to give opportunities. We are excited to get on the floor and finally play some games."

The veterans on the team, coming back for their 5th and final season are Rosie Stanoev, Brooklyn Wright, Sydney Stewart, and Sydney Ezekiel. English stated the importance of having veteran leadership on the team:

"We have a great group of leaders within our program. They have helped the 1st years tremendously and have been there for them every day in practice. To have these girls back for their final season is something I really am excited for as a coach. They have given so much of themselves to the program and their commitment level is something to be admired."

When asked about what he expects from the tournament, English stated:

"I feel if we can focus on the areas we can control we will put ourselves in a great position to have a solid weekend. We just need to be ourselves and play to our strengths."

The schedule for the Sea-Hawks for the weekend is as follows: Friday 5PM EST against Concordia, Saturday 12PM EST against Laurentian and Sunday 10AM EST against UPEI.
