The visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the UNB Varsity Reds 75-65.
The Sea-Hawks led 44-36 at the half, but allowed the Varsity Reds to go on a 10-0 run to start the third quarter and take a 46-44 lead.
A time-out by Memorial head coach Mark English helped settle the visitors, who scored 17 fourth quarter points.
"We just came in cold," said Memorial's Sydney Stewart (Sarnia, ON), of their second half start. "But then we had the time-out and thought about, came back calm and we were good."
Stewart had a double-double Saturday, scoring 15 points and adding 11 rebounds, earning Subway Player of the Game honours.
"It was a team effort. It's thanks to them that I can do what I do out there and we won because we crashed and boxed out well, we just played as a team," she said.
Brooklyn Wright (Cambridge, ON) had 18 points for the Sea-Hawks.
Emily MacLeod (Fredericton, NB) paced the V-Reds with a game-high 20 points. She added six rebounds.
"They hit shots," said MacLeod. "They really came out here tonight quite hot and I think it's hard to keep momentum going when you have someone shooting a three in your eye every four minutes."
Hannah Currie (Collingwood, ON) scored 14 and had eight rebounds.
The Sea-Hawks built their first half lead on the strength of their long-range shooting. Memorial was 8 for 13 from three-point territory.
"It's unique in the AUS, you don't see a lot of teams doing that, especially when you have two bigs that shoot the ball as well as they do," said MacLeod. "I know we're not used to defending fours and fives that shoot the ball like that."
"Hopefully we get a hand up on shooters tomorrow so they don't come out so hot, and taper that momentum."
The Varsity Reds don't have to wait long for a chance to redeem themselves.
They host the Sea-Hawks again Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:00am.
"I think if we pound the ball in tomorrow, I think we'll have some of that success we saw coming out in the second half," said MacLeod.
On the short turnaround, Stewart was succinct.
"It's not anything new for us, we're very used to it."
