Sea-Hawks looking to extend winning streak

The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's basketball team returns home this weekend to take on the Cape Breton Capers at The Field House.  The first game of the weekend set is 6:00pm on Saturday, followed by the Sunday rematch at 12:00pm.

Memorial comes into the weekend riding a two-game winning streak after sweeping the StFX X-Women last weekend in Antigonish.  The Sea-Hawks are currently in fifth place in the AUS with a 2 and 2 record, while the Capers hold the third spot at 3 and 1.  This is an important weekend for both teams as each game is worth four points in the standings.

The Sea-Hawks will look to build on last weekend's success by once again putting the focus on their defense.  Coach English felt the team's defensive effort was the main reason behind last weekend's sweep.

"It felt good to get two wins on the road last weekend. The team did a great job of competing on defensive in both games and our movement on offensive got better throughout. We are hoping to continue to build on this past weekend's success heading into this weekend against a tough Cape Breton team."

English knows his team will be in tough this weekend, but knows if they can limit turnovers and play tough they will have an opportunity to win.

"I think if we take care of the basketball and stick to our defensive game plan that we have in place, we will put ourselves in a good position this weekend to be successful."

The Capers are led by forward Alison Keough who is first in the AUS in scoring, averaging 25.0 pts/game.

Memorial will look to counter with a more balanced scoring attack, with Sydney Stewart (12.0 pts/game) and Sydney Ezekiel (10.5 pts/game) being counted on to lead the way.

Tickets are available at the gym and they will also be broadcast live on AUStv.ca.
