Playoff Run in Cape Breton

 

Sea-Hawks Place 4th for Highest Placing Since 2005

The Memorial Sea-Hawks men's team (6-5-1) is headed to Cape Breton for the 2023 AUS playoffs. Their first game will take place on Thursday Oct. 26. at 2 pm where they will face the fifth place team, the Saint Mary's Huskies (5-4-3) The winner of this quarter final game will head to the semifinals to face the first place team, the Cape Breton Capers on Friday Oct. 27.

The Sea-Hawks ended their regular season with two at home wins against the Acadia Axe-Men. The first match between the two teams resulted in a 1-0 win for Memorial. The lone goal was scored by Gus Opuoro who managed to net one past Acadia's Goalkeeper Dylan Legere off of a play from a corner kick taken by Brent Hennebury in the 7th minute. Neither team could add to the scoreboard for the remainder of the game and it would end in a 1-0 Memorial win. The final regular season game was played in a sideways downpour that resulted in a 2-1 win for Memorial. The first goal in this match came from Memorial's Josh Power who unleashed a far out powerful shot that soared into the back of the net to gain his first goal as a Sea-Hawk. The second Memorial goal came from Cabhan O'keefe who strategically placed the ball into the net just before the halftime whistle. Acadia managed to gain a goal in the second half but were not able to catch Memorial on the scoreboard.

The Memorial Sea-Hawks men's team is heading into the playoffs sitting at 4th place. The last time the Memorial Sea-Hawks men's soccer team finished with this high of a standing was in 2005 where they placed 4th. The Sea-Hawks first contestant is the Saint Mary's Huskies who currently sit at 5th place. When the two teams faced each other earlier in the season they split the weekend. Memorial lost the first game 2-1 but came away with the win in the second game 3-0.

Team leader Harry Carter is heading into the playoffs in good spirits. "I have a great feeling about the weekend. We've had a great season so far and this is a special group of guys". Although excitement is high, the team is not getting ahead of themselves. " We have our goals set but it's important to take it one game at a time." says Carter.

The Sea-Hawks have a well rounded team with 15 players recording at least 1 point. Point leader is Cabhan O'Keefe who currently has 3 goals and 3 assists. Leading goal scorer is Colin Connors who currently has netted 3 goals for the Sea-Hawks. Over 12 games, the team has accumulated 17 goals.
