The Memorial Sea-Hawks Host the Acadia Axe-Men in Hopes to Clinch Playoff Spot

The Memorial Sea-Hawks Men's soccer team (4-5-1) will host the Acadia Axe-Men (2-3-5) for their last set of regular season games at King George V field this weekend. Both teams are looking to clinch a playoff spot to be able to compete in the AUS playoffs that begin on October 26th.

The Sea-Hawks competed against the Cape Breton Capers (9-0-1) and the St. FX X-Men (7-2-1) this past weekend, the top two teams in the AUS. This resulted in two hard battled losses on the road. The first of the weekend was a 2-1 loss against the Capers. Both teams could not convert on any quality chances in the first half until the 38th minute when the Capers gained a free kick where they blasted one past Memorial's goalkeeper Louis-Charles Vaillancourt. Just before halftime, Sea-Hawks star Colin Conners managed to net one past Capers goalie Daniel Clarke with the help of Jacob Grant and Cabhan O'Keefe. During the second half, the Capers managed to grab another goal, defeating the Sea-Hawks 2-1. The second game of the weekend resulted in a 3-1 loss against the St. FX X-Men. The X-Men came out firing and netted a goal in the first 5 minutes. Before the game was over, the X-Men netted a total of 3 goals past Memorial. Lone goal scorer of the match for the Sea-Hawks was Gabrial Lage who found the back of the net off of a rebound off the crossbar from Jacob Grant.

This upcoming weekend will be the Sea-Hawks last regular season games of the year: a doubleheader weekend against the Acadia Axe-Men. With both teams battling for a playoff spot, they are bound to have 2 action packed games. The Axe-Men are led by 3rd year Anderson Peters who has 4 goals and 2 assists in 8 games. Dylan Legere who has saved 43 shots so far this season stands in goal for the Axe-Men.

Colin Connors leads the Sea-Hawks with 4 goals and 22 shots. Connors has been an outstanding offensive player, using his speed to create optimal scoring opportunities. Sea-Hawks goalkeeper Louis-Charles Vaillancourt has brought immense positive energy  both on the field and in the dressing room. Vaillancourt has had an impressive 4 shutouts and 29 saves. Both players will be crucial for the teams last push to the playoffs.

Heading into this weekend's games, Sea-Hawks Matt Hargest says "The feeling in the dressing room is confident. The boys know what we have to do and we're confident in our game plan. We fully expect to be playing next week." The Sea-Hawks are hoping to hold their own and battle into a playoff spot through these games against the Axe-Men.

Head down to King George V Field this weekend to watch the Sea-Hawks and Axe-Men battle out for a spot in the AUS playoffs.
