Sea-Hawks Take Flight Versus Axemen

Sea-Hawks Take Flight Versus Axemen

The Memorial Sea-Hawks have earned back-to-back victories with a home defeat of the Acadia Axemen on Saturday afternoon from KGV.

The Hawks got on the board early after a great defensive effort by Tyler Kirby, who stole the ball from the Acadia defender and fired a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute of play. Acadia keeper, Andrew Nutt, turned the shot aside, but Memorial striker Kyle Williams was on the doorstep to knock in the rebound for Memorial.

Memorial and Acadia would exchange a few opportunities throughout the first half, but Memorial would hang tight and go into the half with a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks registered the first great scoring chance of the second half when Jacob Grant tried to knock a header in off Kyle William's corner kick but it was sent over the Axemen's net.

Acadia pressed hard for the equalizer and almost tied the game in the 48th minute when #24 Gordon McLaughlin made a great individual effort and placed a shot past Sea-Hawks keeper Dylan Crichton, but the ball struck the crossbar and was quickly sent away by Michael O'Brien on the Sea-Hawks back line.

Memorial would put the game away in the 63rd minute with a great through ball from Alex Dolomount to Kyle Williams, who finished from just inside the 18-yard box for his second goal of the game.

Williams would earn Subway Player of the Game for his 2-goal effort.

The teams will meet again tomorrow for a rematch at 3:15pm NST at KGV.
