Sea-Hawks Open Season at Home Versus Huskies

Sea-Hawks Open Season at Home Versus Huskies

THE MATCHUP
The SMU Huskies come in this season with a fairly young team, only having two players in their 4th and 5th year of eligibility. The Sea-Hawks are fielding an even younger team with 9 rookies this season. After a 1-win season in 2018-2019 the newly reformed MUN squad shows great potential with many young energetic players, five of which are imports from outside the province. Although the standings show distance between Saint Mary's and Memorial it doesn't rule out the possibility for a competitive showing this weekend. Last season when the two teams met, it finished with the Huskies edging out the Sea-Hawks 1-0.

HAWKS EYE
Expected to lead the young team this year with his grit and skill is team captain Michael O'Brien. Soccer fans should also keep an eye out for a couple impressive midfielders 2nd year Harry Carter and 4th year Fomba Fambullah. Also predicted to hold their own this season are forwards Tyler Kirby and Kyle Williams. After taking last year off, these two men return reinvigorated and determined to help lift their team to a higher spot in this season's standings. After an upsetting injury prevented him from playing his rookie season, Jacob Grant is keen to finally play for the red and white and leave his mark on the field.

COACHES THOUGHTS

After only scoring 5 goals last season the 2019-2020 men's Sea-Hawks need to put more shots on net to help them find the wins. Coach Jake Stanford explained that for a chance to see the playoffs this time around the unit must become more explosive offensively. Coach Stanford hopes to set the tone for the season and take two wins this weekend against the Huskies. Going into the season the men need to light their fire early and gather momentum to put up some competitive matches this season. With two fresh faces in the net the Sea-Hawks hope to show shut-outs and strong defensive support. It is a combination of the strength of returning players and enthusiasm of the many rookies that show true potential for the 2019-2020 season. Keep the MUN men on your radar!
