Hawks Fly to Manitoba for National Championships

The Memorial Sea-Hawks Men's curling team will travel to Portage la Prairie in Manitoba for a chance to compete for U-Sports Championship. It is no surprise that the team qualified for the national championships, as curling culture is very entrenched in Newfoundland. The Sea-Hawks managed to win a national title in the 2016-2017 season, and even hosted AUS curling championships last year. This year, Memorial advanced to U-Sports Championships by making it to the finals of the AUS, where they lost to the Dalhousie Tigers 9-2. Nevertheless, both teams will be in Manitoba this week where they will compete with the best university curling teams around the country. Last year's champions, Carleton Ravens are not in the tournament this year, so there is a higher chance of success for the Sea-Hawks. Memorial's rink that will be fighting for a title is made up of Benjamin Stringer (Lead), Greg Blyde (Second), Ryan McNeil Lamswood (Third), and Daniel Bruce (Skip). Coach Dennis Bruce's squad opens up the Championship against the Alberta Golden Bears Wednesday evening, and will participate in at least 6 more matches until Saturday. If Memorial manages to provide a good performance, they will advance to the semi-final and final matches, which will be held on Sunday, March 15th.
