(St. John's, NL - March 28, 2024) - Memorial University's Sea-Hawks Basketball Program proudly announces the commitment of Zack Weenk, from Calgary, Alberta. Zack, a dynamic 6'3" guard, has officially signed to join the Sea-Hawks for the upcoming 2024-25 season, bringing his exceptional talent and dedication to the team.

Hailing from Calgary, Zack Weenk is a promising prospect known for his tenacity on the court and his versatile skill set. Zack comes to Memorial University from Edge School, where he honed his craft and emerged as one of the top prospects in Alberta. 

"We are really excited to get Zack to campus and have him join our team," said Head Coach Ian Coultas. "He is exactly the type of recruit we value. He is skilled, has a strong work ethic, and academics are really important to him. We expect Zack to make an impact in year 1 and look forward to watching him develop as a Sea-Hawk."

Joining former teammate Joshua Francis, who completed a stellar rookie season with the Sea-Hawks and earned a spot on the AUS All-Rookie Team, Zack Weenk's arrival marks the second straight year that the Sea-Hawks add a player from the Edge School.

"I'm excited for this next chapter in my basketball journey," said Zack Weenk. "Memorial University's strong academic reputation and competitive basketball program make it the perfect fit for me. The coaching staff and team dynamics really stood out to me throughout my recruitment process. Additionally, I wanted a school that would allow me to pursue my basketball goals, but also one that places high importance on academic excellence."

In addition to his basketball pursuits, Zack will be pursuing a degree in Engineering while at Memorial University, showcasing his commitment to excellence both on and off the court.

Zack heads to St. John's in August to begin his journey with the Sea-Hawks, bringing his passion for the game and his commitment to excellence to the vibrant basketball community of Newfoundland and Labrador.

When asked about what Memorial fans can expect to see from him as a Sea-Hawk, Zack responded, "I will bring high energy, strong defensive efforts, and a notable impact on the offensive end of the floor."
