Sea-Hawks Fly To Quebec for Final Tune-up

The Memorial men's basketball team will be flying to Quebec this weekend to play 3 pre-season exhibition games.

Their last round of exhibition games took place from September 27th- 30th in Ontario. The team played 4 games in 4 days, going 2-2 during their stay. The trip saw them take wins over the Waterloo Warriors and the York Lions, while losing to the Laurier Golden Hawks and the Guelph Gryphons.

Head Coach Peter Benoite wants his team to be known as a team that plays hard every game this season, capitalizing on the youth of the team. His team looks to get some more much needed experience this weekend, while improving on the mistakes they made in the previous trip. During this trip to Quebec, the Hawks will play the Laval Rouge et Or twice and the Bishop's University Gaiters once.

First year forward Emmanuel Ring, a red shirt from last season, is excited to play more pre-season games this weekend, and thinks the team can learn a lot from their previous trip. "That weekend was a learning curve for sure. We're really young, our team has seven rookies, so we're bound to make mistakes. That's what that weekend was for, to learn".

The Sea-Hawks will look to improve on mistakes made in Ontario this coming weekend in Quebec against some skilled competition. When asked what the team can improve on, Ring said "Our defence for sure, that's something we had trouble with in Ontario."

Third year forward Paddy Dawe says the team has been practicing their defensive rotations and that they feel more confident going into the weekend. He also commented on how the rookies have been fitting in, saying "So far they've really been fitting in. We've got a really good group of guys who all get along, and I'm excited to see more of what they can do this weekend. The transition from high school to university basketball is usually difficult, but they're not afraid to work hard and get better to earn more court time."

The schedule for the Sea-Hawks for the weekend is as follows: Thursday vs. Laval at 5PM EST, Friday vs. Bishop's at 2PM EST, and Saturday vs. Laval at 2PM EST.
