Talented Midfielder Lee Joins Sea-Hawks

The Memorial Sea-Hawks varsity women's soccer team are happily announcing talented midfielder Bethany Lee as a shining addition to the class of 2024. Hailing from St. John's, she has risen through the province's soccer ranks, finding success at both the club and provincial levels. In 2022 Lee represented Newfoundland & Labrador at the Niagara Canada Summer Games, and in 2023 she became a national jubilee champion with the Holy Cross Crusaders soccer club. Upon graduation from the IB Diploma program at Holy Heart high school, Bethany will study Human Biosciences at Memorial.

Describing her style of play, Sea-Hawks head coach Mike Power suggests "Bethany is a clever attacking-minded player who presents a refreshing touch of technical skill and ball mastery. She is a student of the game, trains diligently, and is at peace when the ball is at her foot." He added that Lee is a "great little number 10, but also effective when stationed on either flank."

Lee hopes to contribute "creativity and teamwork" to her new environment, and is "most looking forward to competing at the next level with such great teammates.". She revealed that she "chose Memorial because of the people, the soccer program, and of course academics."

"We're excited about the level of competitiveness and skill that Bethany will bring to training and to into the AUS" said Sea-Hawks assistant coach Teri Murphy, who also happens to be Bethany's high school coach with the Highlanders. "We're lucky to have her."

"It's great to add another high achiever to our locker room, and it's going to be a lot of fun getting to work with Bethany over the next 4 to 5 years" concluded coach Power.

Bethany becomes the 5th member of team's 2024 recruiting class following the announcements of 3X OUA All-Star Jen Milligan, Swiss Youth International Goalkeeper Leana Claude, as well as local attacking duo Luci Thoms & Ellie Power. The Sea-Hawks will open the 2024 AUS season on the road as they visit the UPEI Panthers on August 30th. Memorial's home opener will be 5pm on Friday, September 6th vs the visiting UNB Reds.
