The Memorial Sea-Hawks swim team is thrilled to announce the commitment of Juliette Mercier, a breaststroke and distance swimmer from Beaverbank, Nova Scotia, for the 2023-24 season. Mercier is an accomplished swimmer and will be sure to bring lots of positive energy and hardworking spirit to the poolside. In March of 2022, she achieved the long course 200 breaststroke Standard Trials time, and currently represents the Halifax Trojans Aquatic Club.
When asked about her decision to commit to Memorial, Mercier said "The Sea-Hawks have a good reputation, and I knew I would be in good hands with coach Duffy and Coach Chris. Coming from another province, I am most looking forward to meeting new swimmers and becoming friends with my new teammates". In her upcoming rookie year Juliette will look to "contribute to a positive environment on the pool deck, and some speedy swimming to help our team get more points!"
Coach Duffy Earle is "excited to add such a promising young talent to our group. We're confident Juliette will have a great career at Memorial and help our team grow even stronger. She is already posting some very impressive times as a high school swimmer, and we only expect her to get even faster."
The Lockview High School student plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science at Memorial, and is interested in Pharmacy. Mercier's ambition and swimming talent will be a welcome addition to both the swim team and varsity-athletics community for 2023-24.
The Sea-Hawks have just concluded their competitive season as they played hosts to the 2023 Subway AUS swim championships. In addition to several individual medal performances, both the men's and women's teams finished in 3rd place.
