The UNB Reds (6-2) earned a win in the first of two games against the Memorial Sea-Hawks (2-6) this weekend at the Field House.

The game started with both teams putting up points quickly and efficiently. UNB scored their first six points off quick shots from deep. Memorial attacked the basket with tenacity, leading to frequent trips to the line for easy points. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Reds held control throughout the first half. After the first quarter, UNB led 27-18.

Entering the second quarter, Memorial struggled to keep control of the ball, committing 11 turnovers in two quarters of play. The main positive for the Hawks has been coming from their energy, spurred by their energetic big-men, Jeff Damalie and Boris Ristanovic.

The third quarter was high energy and Memorial had moments where momentum shifted in their favour. The energy was continued on from the first half, supported by the Hawks' Jeff Damalie, who provided valuable hustle plays on both sides of the ball.

In the end, UNB managed to ride out the Hawks with consistent offense and defensive performances. Daniel Pitcher of UNB earned Subway player-of-the-game recognition after an incredible shooting performance, putting in nearly every shot he took. For Memorial, Nathan Barker and Emmanuel Ring scored twenty or more points, supported by Daniel Foo's 18 off the bench. 

The Hawks will look to rally tomorrow against the Reds, splitting the series. The game begins at 2:00pm and will be available online at AUStv.ca.
