Jade Roberts to Compete at U Sport Championship

Jade Roberts to Compete at U Sport Championship

A tremendous 6th place finish in the 2021 Subway AUS Cross Country Championships were enough to push Jade Roberts through to the 2021 U Sport X-Country Championships taking place on Saturday, November 20th in Quebec City, Quebec.

Roberts has appeared in one previous U Sport Championship, during the 2019 season Roberts put forth a solid performance with a 64th place finish and a time of 30:37. However, with another year of experience under her belt, Roberts would like to improve upon that mark when she steps onto the starters line this year. Roberts has appeared in one other meet this season besides the AUS Championship, she ran to a 2nd place finish at the Acadia Invitational on October 2nd with a time of 31:18. With Roberts' wealth of experience and success at big events, there's no reason to doubt the Sea-Hawks star runner as she will likely put her best foot forward.

Jade is grateful and honoured to have the opportunity to represent the province and Memorial University at this event this weekend. "I'm very grateful for the opportunity to represent Newfoundland at such a prestigious event. I will most definitely be missing my team this weekend as I'm the sole Seahawk to travel, but It is a true honour and I will be giving it my all to represent our province and university with pride." She is looking forward to racing against the best in the country and is looking for a top 20 finish at the U Sports Championship. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to race against the best in the country and for me, it is a chance to learn and continue to grow in the sport. My ideal goal would be to finish within the top 20 of the country, but regardless of the result, I will be happy just to have the chance to compete amongst the elites." Jade had some big challenges this year being a student athlete and being in medical school, but she says it been rewarding and to make it to this point she feels like a champion. "Bring a student athlete while in medical school has been one of the biggest challenges that I have ever tackled, but yet the most rewarding. To make to it to this point, in itself makes me feel like a champion." She is thankful for all the people the supported her to get to where she is today and this weekend, she will be being doing the thing she loves the most. "I am thankful for all of the people who supported me along this journey thus far, it has taken a village and I wouldn't have made it here with my amazing support system! This weekend, I will do what I love to do, and run with my heart. I will showcase my Seahawks jersey with utmost pride and do my best to represent Newfoundland and with integrity and sportsmanship."
