Sea-Hawks face Axe-Women on the Road

The Memorial Women's Sea-Hawks Volleyball team is headed to Acadia for their last set of games of the semester.

 

Memorial faced the reigning champions, the Dalhousie Tigers last weekend where they fell short in both games. The first game ended in three sets to none for the Tigers. The first set was a close contested match that ended in a 25 to 23 win for the Tigers. The Sea-Hawks found themselves ahead at multiple points but could not push through to win it. The Tigers then found consistency and won the next two sets 25-19 and 25-13. Tigers #8 Talia Vydykhan held an impressive game hosting 11 kills and 5 digs. On the Sea-Hawks side, both #6 Nela Woelfel and #16 Lydia Grawer both completed 6 kills each. On the defensive end, #4 Karen Greek blocked 4 kill attempts from the Tigers and #5 Sarah Trowbridge had 9 successful digs to help her team stay in the game. 

The Dalhousie Tigers dominated the next game, winning three sets to none with scores of 25-9, 25-20, and 25-9. Tigers #1 Paris Stewart was the kill leader of the game with 9 as well as team dig leader with 5, teammate #19 Amelia Hartnett shone, directly contributing to 12 points. The Sea-Hawks attempted to play a defensive game with libero #5 Sarah Trowbridge digging 6 balls and #11 Maria Moorese digging 4. Kill numbers were low but spread across the sheet with 6 players gaining points off of kills. #20 Taylar Johnston led with 4. 

The Sea-Hawks (0-6) will face the Acadia Axe-Women (5-2) this upcoming weekend. The Axe-Women are on a firing streak, winning their last 5 consecutive games. On the offensive end, Acadia has some strong statistics. #1 Jenna Lake has completed a total of 81 kills in just 7 matches so far this season that helped her directly contribute to 92 points. #23 Wesley-Ann Bailey leads the Axe-Women in points per set, averaging 3.2 to accumulate direct contributions to 86.5 points. #12 Alexis Lemay-Evans is another notable player who has 66 kills and has directly contributed to 80 points. Libero #10 Rebecca Dorsey is a strong defensive player who currently sits at an impressive 125 digs and receiving 215 serves. 

The Sea-Hawks statistic leaders are spread throughout the roster with different players excelling in each area. #6 Nella Woelfel has completed the most kills with 33, and has directly contributed to 35 points. Overall point leader is #20 Taylar Johnston with 40, who is also second in kills with 28. Another notable player is #16 Lydia Grawer who leads the team in points per set at 3.6 and also has 26 kills. Libero #5 Sarah Trowbridge currently has 56 digs and #6 Nella Woelfel with 32. Both players have also received the most serves with 133 and 101 serves received respectively.
