Sea-Hawks Face X-Men for Weekend Series at Home

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (1-3-1) host the undefeated St. FX X-Men (4-0-0) for a pair of games at King George V Park in St. Johns.

The Sea-Hawks were limited to one game last weekend as Hurricane Fiona ripped through the Maritimes, resulting in the cancellation of their Sunday match against the SMU Huskies, to be played at a later date. In their lone match of the week, the Sea-Hawks lost a hard-fought battle to the Dalhousie Tigers by a score of 2-0. This squad will once again rely on their top offensive threats to carry them to victory over in this weekend’s games, players like attacker Jacob Grant and Felly Elonda will be key in outscoring the opposing side. Grant, Elonda and Brent Hennebury all lead the team in points with 2, a total that is expected to rise this weekend. Sea- Hawks Head Coach Noel Stanford expects the team to be focused on improving their overall performance over the next few weeks as the games become more meaningful. The goaltending duo of Kirk Edwards (0.818 SV%) and Daniel Hanlon (0.526 SV%) have alternated games so far this season, with Edwards starting 2 and Hanlon getting the majority at 3.

The X-Men have enjoyed a perfect start to the season and now head east to play in the always challenging St. Johns conditions and a Sea-Hawks team that is hungry for wins. The X-Men have exploded offensively to start the season, leading all AUS teams with 12 goals for. Leading the attack for the X-Men is forward Samuel Barrowcliffe (5 pts), midfielders Kyle Cordeiro (5 pts), and Logan Rieck (5 pts), all of whom place 2 nd in the AUS in terms of production. Cordeiro has been one of the premier goal scorers in the conference, finding the back of the net 4 times already this season. Not to be forgotten is the X-Men’s defence, they’ve only allowed 1 goal so far on the season and shockingly have limited opponents to a combined 6 shots on target through their first 4 games.
