Sea-Hawks earn two medals at Subway AUS Track and Field Championships

The Memorial Sea-Hawks had a great performance at the 2023 Track and Field Championships in Saint John, New Brunswick this past weekend, earning two medals and several top 6 finishes. 

 

In the first day of competition, Shae Ledevehat competed in the women's pentathlon and took the gold with a score of 3502, earning her a spot at USPORTS, which is being held at the University of Saskatoon from March 9th to 11th. She is currently ranked 12th in the country in the 5 combined events, which include the 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put and 800m run. Emily Foley also competed in the event and earned fifth with a score of 2762. 

 

In the men's 300m race, Alexander Nunes placed fourth, just missing the podium with a time of 0:36.17. In the 600m men's race, James Power also earned a fourth-place finish in a time of 1:25.62. 

 

Senior Joey Pittman competed in the men's heptathlon over both days of competition and placed fourth overall with a score of 3471. He also competed in the individual men's pole vault event, earning fourth in that as well. 

 

In the field events, Erin McGettigan competed in the pole vault on Saturday morning and earned a silver medal, clearing a height of 2.90m.  

 

Shae Ledevehat also competed in the individual women's long jump event and placed fourth, jumping a distance of 5.12m. 

 

Chris Coady competed in both the men's shot put and weighted throw, earning fourth place and sixth place, respectively. 

 

In the women's triple jump event, Brianna Fortune placed sixth overall, jumping a distance of 9.35m. 

 

Finally, the Sea-Hawks did well in several relay events. On the women's side, the 4x400m relay team consisting of Shae Ledevehat, Molly Pomeroy, Gretchen McPhail and Emily Foley placed fourth with a time of 4:10.25. For the 4x200m relay, Memorial placed sixth, with Paxton Ramm, Molly Pomeroy, Gretchen McPhail and Brianna Fortune all running the event.  For the men, their 4x400m and 4x800m teams both placed fifth overall, with times of 3:34.29 and 8:35.95, respectively. Owen Campbell, James Power, Noah Defreyne and Alexander Nunes ran the 400m relay and Tadhg Strand, Noah Defreyne, Owen Campbell and James Power ran the 800m relay. 

 

Overall in the team standings, the men tied for fifth with St.FX with 21 points, and the women also placed fifth with 26 points. 

 

This concludes the 2022-23 indoor track season for the Memorial Sea-Hawks. They will return next year with more AUS action!
