Hawks Prepare for 3 Games at Acadia

Sea-Hawks look for first wins vs. Acadia

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (0-14) go into Wolfville to play the Acadia Axewomen (7-6) in a 3-game series this weekend. The Sea-Hawks head into the game after dropping their last two games on the road to Saint Mary's and Dalhousie. Acadia go into the matchups after losing their last two games on the road to UNB.

The Hawks have had a tough season so far with no wins yet, but are staying optimistic as they look towards the future of their program. Coach John Slauenwhite says "the team is eager to get back on the court following an excellent week of practice and training. Our goal is to continue to make progress and finish the season on a high note".

The Axewomen, however, are in the running for second in league if they can string together a few wins and hope for a few losses from Saint Mary's and UNB. These circumstances will make for some very competitive matchups for Acadia and Memorial.

Coach Slauenwhite states "we feel that we match up well with Acadia, having pushed them to a fifth and deciding set in our only meeting this year. They will be tough, but we are up to the challenge to find success on the road".

Acadia will look for big contributions from Lucy Glen-Carter, who had strong performances on the attacking end on January 24th (14 kills) and January 25th (13 kills), and is the leader in points per set at 4.5. The team will also look have another strong blocking performance as a team, as they had a total of 18 block assists in their game on January 25th.

The Sea-Hawks will need performances from the whole team if they want to pick up their first wins of the season. In particular, they will need regular contributors Alyssa Warford (2.5 pts/s) and Kaitlyn Kuchinka (2.3 pts/s) to have big games in order to have success this weekend against a tough Acadia squad.

The Sea-Hawks play Acadia on Friday January 31st at 7:30PM NST, Saturday February 1st at 7:30PM NST and Sunday February 2nd at 1:30PM NST. You can watch the games live on www.austv.ca, follow the live scores of the games on www.goseahawks.ca or follow the games on Twitter.
