Sea-Hawks sprint to Moncton for AUS Championships

The Sea-Hawks track team flies to Moncton, New Brunswick this weekend to compete in the 2019 AUS Track & Field Championships.

The tournament spans from Friday February 22 to Saturday February 23. All the events are individual, and if an athlete reaches top six in their event they gain points for their team. There will be a men's team champion and a women's team champion for total amount of points awarded.

The Sea-Hawks are travelling with 19 athletes to Moncton. This is including seven seasoned veterans of AUS Championships and twelve AUS rookies.

Fourth year student-athlete Elizabeth Organ has competed at the AUS Championships for the last three years. She feels her team is prepared for this weekend and gave a few encouraging words "We started training in September and haven't slowed down since. In January, a group of athletes went to Halifax for a meet and had some strong performances which is a great sign leading up to this weekend! We're hoping to keep that momentum going into AUS".

Organ's leadership has been instrumental in her team's preparation for AUS championships. She said earlier "Everyone is ready to compete. Our team is quite young, so a big goal for this year's championship is to gain experience for the years to come. There's lots of talent on our team so it'll be interesting to see how we stack up against the other athletes in the AUS!"

Coach Jennifer Stender has given her time, effort, and experience to the development of the Track program at Memorial. Her selfless devotion to the program has helped her team get where they are today. She is "looking forward to seeing how we do with the stiff competition from other universities".
