Big Win for Sea-Hawks at Home

Big Win for Sea-Hawks at Home

The Memorial Sea-Hawks earned their first regular season win over the UNB Reds, 86-72. The Hawks started slower in their home opener and the Reds came out with a quick 5-0 run to start the game.

Once the Hawks got their groove, they kept up with UNB, keeping the game close throughout the first half. MUN led 42-36 after the first twenty minutes of play, getting a momentum boost from Jeff Damalie's last-second tip in. Cole Long led the scoring for the Hawks with 10 points and 5 rebounds at the end of the second. The scoring was fairly distributed across the two teams.

Tyrell Leotaud and Chris Spurell led the Reds with 8 points each. MUN came out guns blazing in the third. They completely shut down the Reds, resulting in plenty of fast break points, dunks, and and-one plays. The Reds were completely rattled by Memorial's pressure and athleticism. Their shooters had no room to breathe, shooting just 1/5 from deep in the 3rd.

The 4th was more of the same for the Hawks. The Reds struggled to put points on the board in the final frame, shooting a dismal 33% from the line and 25% from deep.

Cole Long was a major contributor for the Hawks in his first game for MUN. He earned himself player-of-the-game off 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Chris Spurrell of the Reds posted 23 points in the loss. Memorial will look to sweep the Reds in tomorrow's game. All Sea-Hawks home games are available on austv.ca
