Sea-Hawks Look to Bounce Back

The SMU Huskies defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks in four sets, 25-23, 25-22, 25-27, 25-12 at the Fieldhouse on Friday night in Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball action. 

The match was competitive right from the opening set, as both teams exchanged points throughout, which saw the game tied 21-21. The Huskies were able to get a key kill, which was followed by a pair of Sea-Hawks errors, which led the Huskies to a 25-23 opening set victory. 

Memorial rebounded and jumped out to an early 8-3 advantage on the visiting Huskies, but SMU regained their focus and jumped ahead 21-14, eventually taking the set 25-22.

Memorial would take the third set 27-25, but were unable to carry that momentum into the fourth set, as SMU responded with a 25-12 effort to conclude the match.

The Huskies were led all night by Olivia Bell, who finished with a team high 11 kills and added 16 digs. Jakobie Friesen also registered a strong performance for the Huskies, finishing with 35 assists.

For Memorial, Cecilie Dumaresque was a standout. She had a game high 15 kills and provided a strong defensive effort with 11 digs. Melissa Hatfield finished the match with 11 kills, while Jenna Poole dished out 37 assists in a losing effort.

Saint Mary's is in town this weekend for a three-game set. Both teams return to the court tomorrow, October 30th at 7 p.m., and October 31st at 1 p.m.
