Hawks Drop 2nd straight vs. Acadia

Axewomen pickup second 3-0 win over Memorial in weekend series 

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Axewomen volleyball team improved to 9-6 with a 3-0 match win over the visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks in a three-match weekend series. 

Lucy Glen-Carter led the Axewomen with a match-high 12 kills and a kill percentage of 0.550 in three sets. Taylor Collombin had a strong match in the middle with four kills, two solo blocks, a block assist, service ace and six digs for 6.5 points Collombin's performance was rewarded with the Subway Player of the Game honours. 

At no time during the three sets did the Sea-Hawks hold a lead. The Axewomen pounced on to an 11-2 lead in the opening set and extended the lead to 20-7 on a flurry of kills spread to all by setter Sydney Zakutney. 

Acadia posted a 25-11 first set win and once again, jumped out to a large lead in the second game. Up 14-5 in the second set, the Axewomen kept the pedal to the metal as they pushed out a 20-11 advantage. Glen-Carter's three kills in the closing of the second set solidified a 25-15 win. 

The pattern continued in the eventual final frame with the Axewomen repeating a 25-15 set and match win. 

The Sea-Hawks posted a 0.000 kill percentage, compared the Acadia's 0.432. Acadia did give up points on 18 service errors. Zakutney "quarterbacked" the offensive attack with 27 of 37 sets. 

Sea-Hawk Claire Wiffen posted a team-high 6 kills and Katie Wagar was named Memorial's Player of the Game. 

Both teams meet tomorrow at 1:00 pm in their final weekend match of a three-match weekend. The Sea-Hawks are looking for their first win of the season.
