Aigles Bleus Take Game One

(ST. JOHN'S, NL.)—The Moncton Aigles Bleus defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-23) on Friday night from The Field House in St. John's. 

The Aigles Bleus hit .236 as a team and held Memorial to a .154 rate.
 
Pascale Doiron finished with seven kills on .125 hitting and eight digs. Ivana Urquhart also added seven kills on .600 hitting and two service aces.
 
Moncton scored the first point of the game on a Memorial service error and would retain that lead throughout the first set. The Hawks battled to keep the score within one point, but the Aigles Bleus pulled away after the technical timeout to close out the set 25-17.

Moncton jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead in the second set, but the Hawks battled back to tie the match 15-15. However, the Aigles Bleus would prevail behind a 10-6 run to close out the set.

Once again, the fans were treated to a competitive set. The teams exchanged leads four separate times in the set, with Moncton leading 16-15 into the technical timeout. Similar to the previous two sets, the Aigles Bleus saved their best play for late in the set and would close out the match with a 25-23 set victory.

Alyssa Warford led the match in kills with 11 on the night. Warford finished second on Memorial in digs with 10 total.

Katie Wagar was all over the court for the Hawks, posting a strong defensive performance. Wagar had a game-high 20 digs.

The second match of the 3-game weekend series will take place on Saturday night at 7:00pm NST at The Field House.
