Sea-Hawks Play Final Home Weekend

Sea-Hawks Play Final Home Weekend

Matchup

The Sea-Hawks (1-13) face off against the Saint Mary's Huskies (6-8) in AUS volleyball action this weekend. There are two weekends left in the season, and the race for the last playoff position is underway. Memorial sits in last place in the AUS, while Saint Mary's holds the final playoff spot. The Hawks will look to play spoiler this weekend and build on their continued improvement this season.

Last Action

The Huskies won their last game against Moncton, which was a crucial game to win points wise. They are now six points ahead of Moncton, and ten points ahead of Memorial. The Sea-Hawks are on a five-game losing streak, but are sure to put it all out on the table this weekend to hopefully have a shot at making the playoffs.

By The Numbers

19.23 digs per set – Saint Mary's is first in the AUS for digs per set this season. Their strong defense will be a struggle for Memorial to beat.

Player Spotlight

Bethany Smith (Saint Mary's) – Smith is second in the AUS for her hitting percentage, at .236. She is also fourth in the league for solo blocks, with a total of fourteen this season.

Belle De Vries (Memorial) – De Vries is ninth in the league for total attacks, one spot behind her teammate Kaitlyn Kuchinka. Hopefully both these players will lead Memorial's attack and put the Huskies under pressure.

Coaches Thoughts

While the Huskies may be ahead in the standings, Coach Slauenwhite feels his team is trending in the right direction and will be a tough matchup for the visiting Huskies.

"This has been a growth year for our team and program. I have been pleased with the progress we continue to make every day in the gym. Saint Mary's is always a tough opponent, but one I feel we match up well against. Our key for success this weekend will be to find consistency on serve receive and offence and stay hungry to compete".
