Sea-Hawks host Saint Mary’s Huskies for Double-Header Weekend

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (2-1-1) will host the Saint Mary's Huskies (0-2-0) this coming weekend at King George V pitch.

Following a win and a tie to the UNB Reds (0-3-0) and the Moncton Aigles Bleus (0-2-2) respectively, the Sea-Hawks will be looking to continue to put on a strong showing. An early goal by Kate Hickey (12th minute) set the scene for an intense game against the UNB Reds. Memorial would concede 1 goal to the other team before defender Kendra Schram would take a shot from far out and tuck the ball under the bar shortly after half time to give the Sea-Hawks a 2-1 lead that they would then hold on to for the remainder of the game. In the midst of the Sea-Hawks match against Moncton, the scoreboard remained deadlocked at 0-0 until the 55th minute, when the Aigles Bleus successfully netted one past Sea-Hawks' goalkeeper, Claire Winsor. The Sea-Hawks felt some urgency and in extra time, forward Zoe Rowe was able to breach Moncton's goalie Krista Phillips to end the game in a tie. Shots during the tie were a lopsided 14-4 for Memorial, showing that despite the score, they played a skilled game.

The Sea-Hawks have had 4 different goal scorers so far this season, each with one a piece. Sarah Jones, Zoe Rowe, Kendra Schram, and Kate Hickey have all found the back of the net so far and are hoping to recreate that feeling this weekend. Leading the team in shots on goal, is midfielder Sarah Jones who has found the front of the net 8 times. Jones has been a major asset to both the teams offensive and defensive plays showcasing her strength and skill. Right behind Jones, is forward Kate Hickey with 7 shots that have made their way to the net. Co-Captain Hickey has been an important part of Memorials team for 5 seasons, having goals in each one she has played in the AUS. Memorial's goalkeeper Shannon Glaway currently leads the AUS with a remarkable save percentage of 0.909%. In 3 games, Galway has saved 20 of 22 shots faced by the opposing teams and has an impressive GAA of 0.67, 3rd in the AUS. Galway's exceptional showings between the pipes have been crucial in keeping the opposing goals low, leading to Memorials strong performances.

The Saint Mary's Huskies have played 2 games so far, both of which resulted in losses. The Huskies have only scored 1 goal leading up to this weekend conducted by forward Allie Martin, who also leads the team with 4 shots on goal. Huskies goalie Grace Morrison has faced 30 shots in only 2 games so far this season, saving 19 of them. With this early on practice, she will be ready to try and keep Memorial off the scoreboard. Having conceded 11 goals and scoring only 1, the Huskies will be ready to fight in hopes to improve their starved offense and struggling defense in the double header weekend against Memorial.

The Sea-Hawks are eager to secure some points this weekend as coach Mike Power emphasizes, "We're looking to establish some consistency and build some momentum." Games against the Saint Mary's Huskies will take place 1:00 pm (NDT) Saturday, September 16th and 12:00 pm (NDT) Sunday, September 17th at King George V Pitch.
