Seahawks Season Openers Against Dalhousie

Memorial Seahawks Prepare to Take on the Dalhousie Tigers in a Double-Header Season Opener Weekend

Our Memorial Seahawks are looking to fend off the reigning 2022 second place team, the Dalhousie Tigers, battling in a double-header season opener this upcoming Labor day weekend at their home turf, King George V Park.

Motivated to kick off the season on a high note, the Seahawks are focused on battling hard against the Dalhousie Tigers whom they fell short to 1-0 in the semis last season. This season, the young team is working tirelessly to aim for an even higher standing.

The Seahawks are led by a lineup of essential athletes such as Co-captains 5th year Kate Hickey, and Bethany Hynes who is back into our midfield after an ACL injury took her away last season. In addition, two third year stars Claire Langille and Zoe Rowe are anticipated to play major roles in the teams attacking play.

"We had a productive pre-season tour to Montreal where we were able to come together as a team, get reacquainted with the U-Sports level of play, and try some different things." says coach Mike Power. During the preseason, the Seahawks tied both the Concordia Stingers (0-0) and the University of Quebec Citadians (1-1) while falling short to the McGill Martels (2-0). The lone goal scored by Alyssa Jenkins off of a remarkable corner taken by Claire Kean. Netting the ball only once during the pre-season encounters, the Seahawks will be looking to improve their attack this coming weekend.

Excitement is brewing as the team is getting ready to tackle their first pair of regular season games. "…I am really looking forward to this season with such a young, strong, united and diverse team. We are a close knit group of girls and will definitely use that to our advantage as we work toward the AUS Championship this fall." Says Co-captain Bethany Hynes.

"We'll be looking to learn and improve every week so that we're a contender once late October rolls around" says coach Mike Power. With the team working relentlessly in practice, they are ready to bring their all to their pair of season openers against Dalhousie.
