Sea-Hawks Hunting for Playoff Berth

Sea-Hawks Hunting for Playoff Berth

The StFX X-Women come to town this weekend to face the Sea-Hawks for a 2-game series.

The X-Women (4-2-4) sit in 5th place in the AUS, come into St. John's to play Memorial (3-3-4). The Sea-Hawks sit in 6th place currently, and need to earn at least a draw this weekend in order to clinch the final playoff berth in the league.

Head Coach Mike Power says the teams focus this weekend is getting the most out of themselves, and he believes they have the skill to take home a win or two. "We expect a cagey little battle with X, but we are confident we can post the result we need to clinch our playoff position and build momentum throughout the business end of the season here."

Memorial has been a relatively low-scoring team this season, only scoring 5 goals through 10 games, but they pride themselves on their stout defense. The team has posted 3 wins, along with 3 draws and 4 losses this season. The team has also posted 6 clean sheets, behind starting goalkeeper Sydney Walsh.

When asked about her success this season, Walsh credited her team as a whole, "I've played in a lot of high stress and high pressure games in my career already, so I've learned to manage my emotions. The thing that helps me the most is communicating with my team. Because of my position I can see everything that's happening on the field, so I can tell players to be wary of anything I see as a potential threat. I also have so much confidence in my teammates, honestly the shutouts this season are greatly credited to them. I wouldn't be surprised if Spencer (Wilkins) has blocked more shots than I've saved"

Walsh also commented on their chance of making a playoff push, saying that the team has been frustrated with their inability to score this season, as in the past they have been known for their ability to score goals. She believes that this will make them even more prepared going forward. "With the frustration we've felt throughout the season, we will be able to go into the playoffs with a stronger mentality than ever before, as we've learned to deal with adversity."

The Sea-Hawks play Friday at 5:00 PM and Saturday at 1:00 PM at King George V.
