Hawks Sweep Aigles Bleus & Earn Playoff Bye

(St. John's, NL) The Sea-Hawks Women's soccer team prevailed once more against the Université Moncton Aigles Bleus 2-0 on Saturday afternoon from KGV.

The Moncton Aigles Bleus started the game being more incisive on the offensive end, as a win was needed for the team to clinch a playoff berth. The Aigles Bleus generated a couple of shots in the first 10 minutes and were organized and patient on the defensive end. However, the Sea-Hawks quickly found their forwards with 3 shots before the end of a goalless first half.

With both teams needing a win to fulfill their season objectives, the two sides entered the second half poised to grab a winning goal. Shortly after the start of the second half the Sea-Hawks' patience was rewarded with a high and powerful shot by Holly O'Neill that evaded the goalkeeper and found the net to make it 1-0.

The Aigles Bleus saw themselves needing 2 goals and pressed forward into the field expand their offense and look for scoring chances. The Sea-Hawks defensive line was solid as the team patiently awaited an opportunity to launch a counterattack play an end the game. It was precisely in one of these plays, that Nicole Torraville found striker Jessie Noseworthy who netted her third goal of the weekend after a beautiful turn to score her 48th career goal with the Sea-Hawks (min 81).

With this result, the Sea-Hawks achieved a bye to the second round of the AUS Championship while The Aigles Bleus narrowly missed the play-offs. The AUS Championship will be taking place from November 2nd to November 5th in Antigonish, NS. All games will be offered online through AUStv.ca.
