Hawks Aiming for Playoff Bye

The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's soccer team returns to action this weekend to play against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (5-5-0) on the last fixture of regular season play for the AUS.

Memorial is currently ranked 2nd in the standings which guarantees a bye in the first round of play-off games. On the other hand, the Aigles Bleus will fight to hold on to their 6th position which is the last spot giving access to the coveted post season. The season has been exceptionally tight with the 5th ranked team trailing the 2nd ranked by only 2 points.

Winning both games will be the top priority for the Sea-Hawks, as such success would give them a bye which would enable the team to be well rested and prepare their strategy for the post-season.

"The league is the tightest it's been in many years with almost every team showing the ability to take points from anyone else, and this weekend is no different. Having said that, we like the position we are in, we have a savvy group, and the bye is an absolute priority for us "affirmed Sea-Hawks Head Coach Mike Power.

The Sea-Hawks battled to a tie against the Acadia Axewomen (0-0) and a win against the UPEI Panthers (5-0) in last weekend's away fixtures.

The game will be pitting prolific goal scorers Jessie Noseworthy and Catherine Dupuis with 7 and 8 goals respectively. Bypassing the Sea-Hawks defense will be no easy task though as they count on rookie goalkeeper Sydney Walsh, who has recorded 5 straight clean sheets, and leads the AUS with 8 total clean sheets this season.

Play between the Sea-Hawks and the Aigles Bleus begins at 5pm NST Friday. The Sea-Hawks will take the field once more against the Aigles Bleus on Saturday at 12pm. Both games will be taking place at King George V Pitch. Live online coverage of the games will be offered through AUStv.ca.
