Sea-Hawks Look to Stay on Top

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (4-0-0) are back on the road this weekend to face off with the Cape Breton Capers (3-0-0) and StFX X-Women (3-0-1) in AUS women's soccer action.

The Sea-Hawks will get the weekend started with an afternoon match-up with the U Sports #9 ranked Cape Breton Capers, who sit just 3 points back of the Sea-Hawks for first place in the AUS standings.  Memorial ranks #7 in the current U Sports rankings and will look to improve on that position with a win in this pivotal contest.

The Capers are led up front by Ciera Disipio and Keona Simmonds, who have three goals each on the season, which ties them for second overall in the AUS goal scoring race.  It will be up to the Sea-Hawks back line and rookie keeper Sydney Walsh (St. John's, NL) to keep the Capers strikers under wraps.  Walsh has had a strong start to the season, allowing only one goal in four matches.

Memorial will also be led by 5th year striker, and reigning AUS MVP, Jessie Noseworthy (St. John's, NL), who leads the AUS in goals with 5.

The Sea-Hawks weekend won't get an easier on Sunday, with the undefeated X-Women next on the schedule.  StFX is currently 2nd in the AUS standings with 10 points and will be led by Kelsey Ellis, who has 3 goals on the season.

With two tough matches in a 24 hour stretch, the Sea-Hawks will need to be ready to play, as these matches will surely impact the final season standings.  Coach Mike Power is looking forward to see how his team respond to this weekend's challenge.

"We will definitely need to be at our best to compete for important points this weekend.  We are preparing thoroughly for quality opponents and the girls are excited for the challenges that lie ahead."

Memorial and Cape Breton will begin play at 1:30pm NST on Saturday afternoon. The Sea-Hawks will be back in action on Sunday at 1:30pm NST to face the StFX X-Women.  Both games can be watched live on AUStv.ca.
