Sea-Hawks Flying High After Opening Weekend

(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks registered a 3-0 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties in AUS Women's Soccer.  The win gives the Sea-Hawks an opening weekend sweep to start the 2017 season.

The Sea-Hawks outshot Mount Allison 8-0 in the first half, but we unable to solve Mounties goalkeeper Claire West (Bedford, NS).  Both teams would go into the break scoreless.

Memorial would continue to pressure the visitors, outshooting them 14-1 in the second half.  Teri Murphy (St. John's, NL) finally put one passed West in the 69th minute on a great individual effort.  Jessie Noseworthy (St. John's, NL) would add to the lead in the 75th minute, while Jane Pope (St. John's, NL) added one more to make the final score 3-0.

Teri Murphy was the Subway Player of the Game, registering the game winning goal for the Sea-Hawks.

The Sea-Hawks head to Halifax next weekend for games against the Saint Mary's Huskies and Dalhousie Tigers.  The Mounties return home with games scheduled against the UPEI Panthers and the Acadia Axewomen. All games are available on webcast at AUStv.ca.
