Hawks Welcome Four Local Recruits

Women's Soccer Program adds 4 local recruits for 2017 season

Memorial Sea~Hawks women's soccer Head Coach, Mike Power, has had a busy offseason and is pleased to announce four local recruits for the 2017 season.  This is in addition to Sydney Walsh (St. John's, NL), who signed her letter of intent back in November.

"All four athletes are highly talented and highly motivated. They are coming from a quality environment in the NLSA Canada Games program and will be ready for the jump to university level soccer. Together with recent recruits like Torraville and Walsh, we are thrilled to start to see the future core of our team coming together" says Power.

Jamie King

Jamie King (St. John's, NL) will add depth to the Sea-Hawks back line next fall. The 5'9", right full back, goes to Gonzaga High School and is a member of the 2017 Canada Games team.  While at Memorial, King will be working towards a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and looks forward to competing for an AUS Championship. King received offers from multiple universities, but decided to stay in province and represent Memorial.

"I can't wait to play with such an incredibly talented and skilled group of women. Their performance last season in the AUS was impressive, and I hope I can contribute to their continued success."

Lauren Taylor

Lauren Taylor (St. John's, NL), a 5'7" forward/winger, attends Holy Heart of Mary High School and also plays on the NL Canada Games team. Taylor was named the 2016 and 2017 HHM Soccer MVP and also won the Fair Play Award at U18 Club Nationals in 2016.  While attending Memorial, Taylor will be working towards a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is following in her father's (Todd Taylor) footsteps, who played for the Men's Soccer team from 1986-1990.

Playing for the Sea-Hawks was an easy choice for Taylor and looks forward to representing her home province.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to play with such a talented team and to continue to play in front of my friends and family. Also, the ability for me to get a great education, while staying at home makes Memorial the right choice for me."

Briana Pender

Briana Pender (Goulds, NL), a 5'5" centre back, currently attends St. Kevin's High School and is a member of the NL Canada Games team.  Pender is the reigning NLSA Player of the Month, and was recently named the soccer MVP and Co-Female Athlete of the Year at her school. While at Memorial, she plans to study Biology, and looks forward to continuing to represent her home province.

"I'm really looking forward to joining the team next season and getting the opportunity to travel within Atlantic Canada to compete against tough competition within the AUS."

Kristyn Lee

Kristyn Lee (Goulds, NL) is a 5'9" centre back, who also attends St. Kevin's High School.  Lee is another member of the NL Canada Games team and has played for the St. John's Soccer Club and the NLSA provincial team.  Lee was recently named the Co-Female Athlete of the Year at her high school and will work towards completing a Bachelor of Physical Education degree while at Memorial.  Lee is focused on capturing a medal at Canada Games this summer, but is also excited to join her new teammates in the fall.

"I'm looking forward to getting to know my new teammates and helping them in any way I can to win the AUS Championship next season. I'm also excited to continue to work with Coach Power and improving my own development."
